Independent Artists need your Help to Survive!
Noel Lorica & other Indie musicians face an uphill battle everyday. Low budgets, few industry contacts and no radio in are some of the difficulties. Now I know not all music is pleasing to everyone's ear but there are some very talented musical artists that just can't get on the radio without your help.
Let's face it, Record Labels can promote only a few artists and they are looking for someone that either already has a following or one that fits their promotional style, but that's not always the best music. Many radio stations subscribe to programming companies, which in turn, use the same formula for determining playlists. Print media usually won't cover you until your big enough & you can't get bigger without press coverage. Record Stores are interested in sales, that's business, but it's also a Catch 22 for musicians. They want someone with proven, recorded (SoundScan) CD or MP3 sales, now you can't get recorded CD or MP3 sales unless your in a store or online company.
Well how do you break this cycle?
I won't tell you I know all the answers. I don't. But logic dictates that musicians that are not with major labels have to work hard and rely on fan help.
CD sales from online companies like Amazon, CDBaby and TowerRecords do get recorded so please buy from them. MP3' s also get recorded if they are from legitimate outlets like MSNMusic.com, Rhapsody & more. You can't wait until it gets in the stores, it may never without your help. Radio stations do listen to fan requests or at least will get them noticed by programmers. The more the better. Web Radio is the easiest access for the new breed of Indie songs but quantity is important here because listenership is low in compared to land-based stations. Newspapers & Magazines also want to feature known personalities or ones they believe have a following.
So write and tell them you like a band or musician. Oh, well let's say you can start with Noel Lorica and work from there. If all goes well in a couple of years you can say you knew about him long before he was nationally recognized and it was your help that made a difference.

Buy CD's Online, Download Legal CDs, Call or Email in Radio Requests, Tell your Friends, Tell your Local Paper & Keep doing It.
